Kabiyesi, may your reign be long.
The people of Akure must be a very lucky bunch. To occupy the banner headlines in these days when there are too many weird stories competing for the headline is no mean feat and they must be double thrilled that their Deji has brought them such popularity and world attention at this time.
They should also be proud that they did not have to pay to watch the inauguration of their Deji into the Failed Men’s Hall of Fame. Their counter parts in Zamfara where not that lucky. Senator Yerima was very stingy with the publicity. He hid the gist from them, came off to Abuja and in the quiet, serenity of the National Mosque and did his thing away from jealous eyes and flashing cameras.
But His Royal Highness Adepoju Adesina is a very generous man so he did his in public glare. He chose no better day than a Sunday, a day when a great number of his followers would be at home relaxing with their families after the Sunday worship and getting their minds set for the new week. Indeed he was very tactical in choosing the time of his action. The Super Eagles were set to play a world cup warm up match with Colombia that evening so he was going to have quite an excited and cheering audience.
Convinced that he had certified all primary requirements for joining the Hall of Fame, he set out in an SUV and an accompanying car. Destination was the House of his estranged senior wife Olori Bolanle Adesina who he was set to teach a lesson or two on how to be a submissive wife and thus ensure his grand entry into the Failed Men’s Hall of Fame.
And what is it they say about Successful men. He had a woman right by his side. The younger Olori, her Lady Highness Remi Adesina accompanied him on this special mission. This mission was of particular importance to her. She was there to supervise and ensure every thing goes well. It was not enough that His Royal Highness has asked Olori Bolanle to leave the palace. He had to also ensure she left the face of the earth. She was there to be a witness and to applaud.
So as strange as the story goes, His Royal Highness in the glory of his royalty descended on his wife and beat her to a pulp. He wasn’t satisfied with just beating her, he had to do something to erode Yerima’s exploits from our thoughts. So he ordered that she be defaced with something hot. Something that left the poor lady burnt and severely injured.
To complete his rites of entry, His Royal Highness who was rescued by Police men after falling into a gutter and having his Royal Jeep vandalized by angry residents is reported to have said to a Guardian reporter “the press can write whatever you guys want to write, I don’t give a damn.”
Certainly His Royal Highness does not give a damn. There is no doubt about that. I mean what sane man who gives a damn would so disgrace himself and the people he represents? You don’t give a damn, but the rest of the sane world does. We give a damn and by now you would have known that you have just murdered sleep and it would be along time before you shall dream of such luxury again.
His Royal Highness has lost the right to be called a Man and pray that Akure has a strong traditional institution that knows its onion. I suggest that he should first be sent to a psychiatrist to determine the level of his sanity before walking him round the town and chanting “God save the king” behind him. The man needs urgent divine rescue don’t you think?. We must make his entry into the Failed Men Hall of Fame very outstanding and memorable. We must sound the talking drums and get the masquerades out. We must splash his picture all over the place with the caption “Here is a former Man”.
When we are done with the festivities of shame, the relevant government agency must come in and enforce the law. And I plead specially that they ensure that the judge he is brought before is female.
The lowest a man can ever descend to is to become a wife beater. We can ignore infidelity, drunkenness and irresponsibility but wife beating? No! and when such indiscretion comes from a Traditional Ruler, a supposedly superior being, an adult who should see to the maintenance of the customs of the land, communal peace and rebuke lesser beings-his followers- when they go out of line, then we are talking of an all time low here. Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina presents yet another example of how not to be a man.
